Food Program Outcomes

The most significant changes seen at Usangule Secondary and Mandachini Primary since the introduction of the food program are national exam pass rates, enrollment numbers, attendance rates, and decreased amount of dropouts.

Since a free meal is supplied at school, parents have been motivated to enroll their children and students are more likely to attend and continue their studies.

Regarding exam rates, students must pass the Form IV exam to continue on to advanced secondary school. Before 2013, the only student to pass the form IV exam was a new student during the first year of the school’s opening in 2008.

Since the food program, Usangule Secondary has been recognized at the district level for its increase in passing rates.

This award celebrates that Usangule Secondary has increased their Form IV exam passing rates by at least 10% for three years in a row in 2021.

District officials have expressed that Usangule’s success has illuminated the relationship between nutrition and learning.
